Fred Nelson III
A native Chicagoan, Fred presently serves as the Director of Music at Christ Universal Temple. Mr. Nelson's career began at the early age of six. As a child prodigy of Ray Charles, Fred performed as the opening act for two years. He received his formal education at Oberlin Conservatory and De Paul University with a concentration in Organ and Composition.
Mr. Nelson's focus has gradually changed from performance to music production and direction. Through his own music company, Nelson Entertainment Group, Inc. (formerly Third Sound Musi)c he regularly produces music for local as well as national radio and television commercials. Fred's list of clients includes Illinois Lottery, Mazda, McDonald's, Coca Cola, Tide, Pantene, United Airlines and Sears just to name a few. Fred has also served as Music Director for many televised events such as "Going Home to Gospel" featuring Patti La Belle and The Annual Stellar Awards (1992- present).
He has worked in many capacities with such artist as The Ojays, Nancy Wilson, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Jennifer Holliday, Ben Vereen, Angela Bofill, and many more. Other credits as Music Director and accompanist include: working with artist such as Anita Baker for the 1994 Michael Jordan Foundation Gala. The Salute to Leontyne Price at Carnegie Hall and Fred also served as the U.S. Music Director and vocal trainer for special events collaboration with Switzerland and the City of Chicago. Performances took place in Chicago, Switzerland and Germany. Mr. Nelson has also served as Conductor/Arranger for orchestras at various concerts.
In addition to concerts, award shows and commercials, Mr. Nelson has performed, arranged and produced music for films such as "Hoodlums," recorded music as the pianist for "My Best Friend's Wedding" and produced and arranged music for the documentary "The Invisible Men of Honor: The Legend of the Buffalo Soldiers." As a producer of the album "Surely the Lord is in This Place," featuring The First Church of Deliverance Choir, Fred had the honor of being featured on the Billboard charts for several weeks.
Fred has served as an elected member of the board of Governors for NARAS (The National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences) Committee for the Grammy's. To Mr. Nelson's credit are several recognitions and awards for his continued pursuance of musical excellence, but Fred considers his most rewarding accomplishment to be his daughter, Paige. Mr. Nelson believes without a doubt that he is merely a blessed channel for God to express his unfailing love, to uplift man through music.

Mr. Nelson is currently a member of SAG, AFTRA, ASCAP, AFM, NARAS and has served on the Governor's Board for NARAS.
